Taumata O Te Ra Lowe is a site foreman for Luijten Landscapes with nearly five years’ experience under his belt and skill in a wide range of areas. He says he’s entering the competition to ”take the next step” in his career.
“I've had the chance to work in a wide range of areas in landscaping, such as hardscape work involving decking, paving and retaining, and softscape work such as lawn management and planting. Learning new things and developing my skillset has been a big part of why I enjoy my career, and I feel that the Young Landscaper competition is the natural next step.”
Despite his position as foreman and level 3 qualification, Taumata isn’t content with resting on his laurels. He’s currently studying for a Level 4 New Zealand Certificate in Horticulture Services - Landscape Construction – a certificate for learners who want to improve their technical knowledge.
The 23-year-old isn’t afraid of responsibility. He’s a board member of Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ, and Luitjen boss Greg Dreyer thinks he has a big future ahead of him.
“Taumata is a young man wise beyond his years and has been waiting in the wings to enter this competition for a few years now. I think this year could be his year!
“He’s a man who doesn’t require management as he likes to lead from the front, and this skill cannot be taught. We are keen to nurture this and help him become the best he can be!”
