Sean Pearless can thank his upbringing for his connection to the outdoors, and although he took a longer route to the industry than some Young Landscaper of the Year competitors, he’s as committed to it as anyone.
“I grew up on a vineyard and spent my childhood growing grapes and fixing stuff,” he says. “I then went to university to study Art History and Political Science, and ran a gardening business with a friend to earn some extra money.”
Following graduation, Sean worked with Aspen Landscapes in Wellington as a soft landscaper, before moving onto a landscape foreman role with Distinctive Home and Landscapes. A shift to Christchurch led to a role with Visual Wonders Landscaping, before Sean moved to Sculptural Landscapes in June 2023.
Sean has been running projects since 2021, and has improved his skills in a variety of fields.
“I’ve gained experience in areas such as retaining, paving, blockwork, brickwork and timber features to add to my softscaping knowledge from the start of my career,” he says.
Sculptural Landscapes boss Jon Russell says Sean is the full package – and will give the rest of the competition a run for their money!
“Sean is the perfect all-round young landscaper with an attitude to match. Nothing gets the better of him, he always has a plan in his head but is also keen to hear from others and collaborate to get the job done.
“He is a driven and polite employee who is going to go far in the industry.”
